Carowinds 2010: Intimidator!

Carowinds has finally made their big 2010 announcement - get ready for Intimidator!

Sharing the name and theme of Kings Dominion's new ride for next year, Carowinds' version will be dramatically different in ride type though. The Carowinds version will be a B&M Hyper Coaster as expected, standing 232 ft. tall with a 211 ft. first drop at 74 degrees.

The 5,316 ft. of track has some interesting features as well, such as the ride's second hill, seen above. Instead of a usual B&M hill-turn, Intimidator will feature what really is a large 'S' drop which looks pretty cool.

The $23 million ride will also feature an turnaround that crosses over itself instead of the usual B&M horseshoe maneuver.

Passengers will sit in the new B&M Hyper trains seen on Behemoth and Diamondback, and will soar through the above helix just before ending the ride. Speaking of trains, it will have three, 32 passenger trains that will allow the ride to send about 1,600 riders an hour through the course.

Looks like another great B&M Hyper that is sure to be a reliable crowd pleaser for Carowinds. The Intimidator ride site is now live, you can check that out at this link.

Props where it's due- It's pretty cool that CF has contined to install themed coasters in the former Paramount parks.

I have a tough time comparing the light-at-best theming for Intimidator to something like Flight of Fear or Stunt Job though. But it's a step in the right direction indeed. (I also must admit that I, too, could give two you know whats about Nascar though!)
