Kennywood Announces Launch Coaster for 2010

'Tis the season for new ride announcements, and Kennywood's did not disappoint! The park has just announced that they will be adding an LSM launch coaster built by Premier Rides for 2010. The coaster will feature a 3-second, 0-50mph launch and will top out at a height of 95 feet. It will also include two 90 degree drops and three inversions, the first to appear on any Kennywood coaster since Steel Phantom gave its last rides back in 2000. An official name and logo will be released in the coming weeks, but for now we're stuck with the concept art above!

Anyone who has visited Kennywood knows that real estate is precious there, so it should reassure you to know that this new addition comes with only a temporary price. The Turnpike ride will be removed to make way for the coaster, but the park has stated that plans are already in the works to resurrect the Turnpike at a different location within the park at a later date. The Turnpike will give its last rides in its current location on August 16.

Mike and I will be meeting with Jeff Filicko of Kennywood's PR department on Friday, so I'm sure we will have many more details to share with you in the days to come--Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can check out the web page the park has put up for the coaster, which includes the official press release as well as a preview video. Let the anticipation begin!
