From The Vault: Carowinds 1999 Park Map

1999 was a big year for Paramount's Carowinds - that was the year that Top Gun - The Jet Coaster, now known as Afterburn, opened at the park.

And the park was making that quite clear on the cover of the 1999 Fun Guide and Park Map, and rightly so.  The large B&M inverted coaster features some interesting elements, such as a fairly unique batwing that dives beneath one of the park's walkways.  It was also super convenient for them to use a photo of the similar ride at the chain's California property - which wouldn't have been possible if the ride was themed to Godzilla as originally planned.

I've always been fond of the park map that Carowinds used during this time, there seemed to be a lot of effort that went into accuracy.  Granted not everything is perfect, but by park map standards this one excels at getting most ride layouts correct.  It's always been fun for the park to be able to celebrate being in both North and South Carolina, and they indeed have the state lines drawn on this one.
